The twenty five enchanting rooms and suites, some of which were once monk cells, are each carved into the caves or built using local volcanic stone. All are unique in shape and size, and beautifully furnished, offering comfortable beds covered with hand-embroidered bedspreads and decorated with traditional Turkish kilims and local pottery.
Ibrahim, the Gamirasu's charismatic owner, born and bred in Ayvali, has fulfilled a life-long dream by restoring this magical hotel. The friendly and welcoming staff are always on hand to offer a wealth of knowledge on the local area; you arrive at the hotel as a stranger and almost feel part of the family by the time you leave this glorious haven.
The communal areas of the hotel are also a delight. The indoor restaurant serves exquisite Anatolian dishes, all created using organic local produce and for warmer days, there is a large outdoor dining terrace, accessed by a bridge which has spectacular views over the dramatic gorge and surrounding caves. Possibly the most astonishing part of the hotel has to be the Byzantine church, complete with its well-preserved colourful frescoes which is always open to guests.
From the Gamirasu, you can enjoy a wonderful 7km walking trail through a rich and verdant valley, as well as horse-riding, cycling and cookery classes. Or for something a little different, we are happy to pre-book a meal at the nearby charming Aravan Evi, a small family-run restaurant serving delicious local cuisine, slowly cooked in their traditional tandir.
