Brigitte, the German born owner and her Turkish husband Ferruh, discovered the ruins of the watermill some time ago and painstakingly set about restoring its old stone buildings with the help of the local villagers. A stream runs down the mountainside through the grounds into an inviting swimming pool and all you hear is the trickling of running water and the sound of the birds. A separate raised terrace built amongst the trees is the perfect place to relax and absorb the wonderful views and sunsets.
The accommodation is arranged like a wooden style chalet, built into the mountainside and set amongst terraced woodland gardens, linked by pathways and wooden steps. They are charmingly furnished and each of the nine bedrooms has a balcony with sea views. The larger suites also have an additional seating area with two extra beds and a small kitchenette. Breakfast and dinner are served on the main terrace which adjoins the large reception-lounge-dining are and library. Brigitte is an excellent cook and with the help of her local staff, serves delicious Turkish cuisine based mainly on local organic produce and she also delights in making her own preserves and home-baked bread.
The popular beach resort of Oludeniz, famous for its stunning blue lagoon is a mere twenty minutes drive away, whilst the bustling town of Fethiye is just a little further. The surrounding coastline is perfect for water sports enthusiasts and for exploring the secluded sandy coves and small islands by boat. In springtime and autumn, the gorges are ablaze with wild flowers, making the Watermill a perfect retreat for nature lovers and walkers wishing to experience Turkish rural life at its best.
