c lose your eyes, imagine what a Mediterranean harbour should look like: white villas covered in bougainvillea, winding cobbled streets, roof terrace bars and harbour side restaurants & that's Kalkan. Festooned with bougainvillea, this sophisticated little harbour town is set in a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. Winding cobbled streets, beach clubs on rocky outcrops over the blue crystal clear Mediterranean, wonderful roof top and harbour side restaurant/bars combined with stunning vistas over the beautiful bays make Kalkan a truly unforgettable holiday destination, encouraging guests to return time and time again. Whether your interests are historical, cultural or you just wish to relax and unwind, Kalkan can offer it all and therefore is sure to satisfy. The restaurants, hotels and bars are owned by Istanbul Turks as well as locals therefore providing a varied, eclectic menu and atmosphere that is notnormally found in Mediterranean resorts.
Kalkan attracts predominantly British guests who are attracted by the authentic yet cultivated ambience. There is a plethora of ancient sites in the immediate vicinity including Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara. By day Kalkan is virtually a ghost town, as everyone deserts her for the nearby beaches and beach clubs. A dolmus, local bus, from the village centre takes ten minutes to reach Kaputas Beach, a lovely sandy swimming cove situated at the foot of a stunning mountain gorge. Another option, though slightly further afield is Patara beach, an 18km stretch of white sand. Otherwise there are several beach clubs which are readily accessible. Beach clubs are rock platforms cut into the hillside offering sunbathing, swimming, watersports, restaurant and bar facilities all in stunning settings.
In the evening Kalkan's true colours show with a wonderful nightlife. The wide range of restaurants and sophisticated bars cater to all tastes. Kalkan and all its enchantments will quietly seduce you into living on Turkish time, unhurried and peaceful, enjoying all that the region has to offer.
