Beaches and beach clubs

During the day Kas becomes deserted as everyone heads for the beach. The town has two beaches imaginatively named Buyuk cakil (Big Pebble Beach) and Kücük cakil (Little Pebble Beach). These are the immediate beaches in the area, however, not the nicest. Other delightful beaches may be reached by using the water taxis that leave the harbour throughout the day for the 10 or 15 minute journey across the bay.

Kaputas Bay

Kaputas Bay (between Kalkan and Kas) offers a delightful sand and pebble cove at the mouth of an impressive gorge.
Umbrellas are available for hire, but there are no sun beds or other facilities & and be warned, the beach is at the bottom of nearly 200 steps!

Patara

Known for being one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful beaches it is an uninterrupted 18km stretch of soft golden sand.

The entrance fee (2YTL per person per day to access the beach) goes towards maintenance of the site.

All of the beaches around Kas (with the exception of Kaputas) have plenty of sunshades and sun beds for hire to provide a welcome respite from the midday sun.

Facilities in Kas

Banks

Kas is a working town and has several banks and cash points where it is possible to change money using all major credit cards at any one of these. Each bank also has a cash machine which accepts cards with Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and Cirrus symbols (including current account debit cards) normally with commission charged by your bank. The instructions are written in English.

Please bear in mind that not all cards will work in the machines and that they can be very temperamental & do not rely on them!  Please speak to your host regarding the latest information on changing travellers' cheques.

The post office

Located off of the main square in Kas, the post office is open from 09.00 & 18.30 and closed for lunch from 12:30 & 13.30. The times are extended during the high season, from 09.00 until midnight. Facilities include changing currency, selling telephone cards and metered telephone as well as the traditional functions of a post office. You can also use their telephones in air-conditioned rooms and be charged the same rate as a telephone box.

Telephones and Phone cards

There are call boxes all across Kas from where you can make local and international calls. Calls require a card that is made up of units of 30, 60 or 100.
To call the UK, dial 00 44 omit the 0 from the STD code and continue with the rest of the code and number. The best rates are between 22.00 & 08.00 and all day Sunday (during which time there is a 25% discount on normal rates). Public telephones have three buttons on the right hand side, the bottom one of which changes the instructions into other languages.

Pharmacy (Eczane)

Kas has several pharmacies or Eczanes in Turkish, that can adequately stocked to cope with  minor ailments. Opening hours are usually between 09:00 & 19:30, extending to 08.30 & 21.00 in high season. Please contact your Tapestry Host at resort if you need any assistance.

Internet Facilities

Kas has several internet cafes that charge approximately £1 an hour.

Petrol Station

All major credit cards are usually accepted in most petrol stations in Kas. Almost all petrol stations in Turkey have pump attendants to fill your car and to wash your windscreen. In this case a token tip of around 1.5 YTL would be much appreciated.
