The Asfiya boasts a superbly convenient location only 10 minutes walk from the town centre and enviable views from its rooftop pool and bar, but the real secret of its charm can’t be seen from the outside. It’s only when you enter into the heart of this small hotel complex that you realise it’s built around the most exquisite oasis of gardens and large pool, crossed by a picturesque small arched bridge. The white and beige stone facades of the buildings are off-set by the strong fuschia colours of Kalkan’s signature bougainvillea plants, the Jacuzzi gurgles away contentedly and the poolside bar provides an unofficial library service with its collection of novels on offer along with the drinks. Breakfast can be taken in the shaded seating area, at tables by the pool or in any of the small eating areas hidden in quiet corners of the garden.
Upstairs, the adult-only rooftop pool area provides a quiet haven and 360 degree views of the mountains, town, bay and islands that is truly unforgettable. You can soak up the last rays of the sun here, enjoy a quiet drink as the sunset unfolds in front of you and the town and harbour begin to light up for the evening.
The rooms are spacious and are decorated in a simple Mediterranean style, with tiled floors and an uncluttered sense of space. Most have now been converted into Suites, with a small lounge area, a private balcony or terrace and the very useful addition of a minibar. The front facing suites have views across the road and pomengranate groves towards the sea, though most seaviews are limited by buildings and foliage.
The deluxe suites which are poolside are the most sought-after as they have their own private indoor jacuzzi and direct views over the central courtyard pool. For a romantic holiday with a touch of luxury, these suites are a perfect choice. Owner Aslan takes pride in the Asfiya as one of the jewels in his group of local properties, which include the Yali Beach Club, the New Oasis hotel and the brand new Lycian Residence and Spa. Guests can take advantage of free two-way transfers to the beach club, which offers panoramic views across Kalkan bay and back to the harbour and Old Town. Carved into a rocky outcrop, the beach club platform has an all-day restaurant, sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as Turkish day-beds for nestling in a little shade when the sun is at full strength.
New additions
New for this year are three generously appointed poolside Master Suites, situated in the hotel’s landscaped grounds. These are some of the largest rooms in Kalkan, each with their own private indoor jacuzzi, ottoman seating, luxurious sofa and extensive sun decking areas. In addition, these three rooms share their own pool which wraps around the building, giving a sense of privacy and tranquillity.
Situated on the top floor of the hotel is a spacious suite, the Owners Suite, with a large comfortable seating area. The room features two extensive terraces – one, off the sitting room with sea views of Kalkan and the other, off the bedroom to the side, overlooking the hotel pool and benefiting from sun all day. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
Aslan’s team at the Asfiya is headed by Hotel Manager, Burhan, who brings with him a wealth of experience. All the staff are very welcoming and always helpful. You will find a high quality of service here - nothing is too much trouble. As a base for exploring Kalkan and the local area, the Asfiya is a prime location, but then again you could always just spend some lazy days lounging by the pool or the beach club – the choice is yours.
