Hotel Fidanka in Kalkan

This quirky hotel has more charm than you ever thought possible in a single location – it’s absolutely idyllic in its own curious and bohemian way. The fun starts when you walk up the stairs through a bower of foliage to see an array of funky suites and studios built around a hexagonal pool. There’s no such thing as a straight line in the Fidanka and that just adds to its enchantments.

The garden is bursting with blazing bougainvillea and the wooden facades of the suites make this seem more like an unofficial beach club than a hotel. Each suite has its own unique décor, one might have an inexplicable collection of owl decorations – from statuettes to cushions – and another might be styled like a tree-house, complete with a steep wooden staircase and part-covered pergola. Many of the handicrafts (some of which can be brought as gifts) are the work of your host, Nukhet and her family who run this property.

From its site on the opposite side of Kalkan Bay to the harbour and Old Town, the Fidanka offers glorious views both inside and out. You’ll feel like you’re in your own little world here and yet you can be on your private terrace looking out at a vast expanse of sea. If you’re looking for secret little places to hide away, this hotel offers so many nooks and crannies in the gardens that you’ll be spoilt for choice and of course there’s a beach club only a 5 minute walk away.

This is the most magical spot in Kalkan by a long shot – what it lacks in luxury it certainly makes up for in style. You cannot fail to be utterly charmed by the Fidanka and its boho ways and you still have all the advantages of living in a hotel, including a rooftop restaurant. If you want a truly memorable holiday in a romantic and unique location, then the Fidanka must be your number one choice.
