Boutique Holidays in the Kaya Valley, Turkey

With its ‘ghost village’ ruins as a backdrop, the low plains of the Kaya Valley are surrounded by pine-filled mountains and punctuated by orchards, making its scenery some of the most beautiful in the region. Kaya is the place that time forgot. The pace of life is traditional, with many leading little more than a subsistence lifestyle, tending to land or livestock. Yet all this is only twenty minutes drive from Olü Deniz, Turkey’s most photographed beach, with bustling beach bars, the famous blue lagoon and a vast array of sailing trips to choose from. When somewhere busier beckons, aside from Olu Deniz, the harbour town of Fethiye is an obvious choice.

The views from the harbour are lovely and the town has restaurants, cafes, bars and enough shops to satisfy almost everyone. An enjoyable stop is the fish market. The market is in the centre of a courtyard lined with restaurants.
Staying in Kaya can be almost like taking a two-centre holiday – there’s utter rural peacefulness on the one hand and stunning beaches and buzzing nightlife on the other. It is traditional Turkey, only minutes away from cosmopolitan resorts.
