Unspoilt Holidays in Orhaniye Bay & Turgutkoy, Turkey

Orhaniye and Turgotkoy villages are protected by strict conservation laws and so are almost untouched by modern life. Guests are not cut off however, as dolmus (minibus) services run from Orhaniye and Turgutkoy to the main town in the region, Marmaris. Marmaris is very commercialised and great for shopping with the bazaar being a good stop for those seeking leather goods and jewellery, and the Nestal marina, home to a range of designer stores. When tired of shopping the waterfront restaurants provide a warm welcome relief with a lovely view. Enjoy Marmaris’ frentic pace for a wile, safe in the knowledge that your chosen property will be as peaceful when you return as when you left.

Orhaniye

From guests’ point of view the focus of Orhaniye is the beautiful long sweep of bay dotted with a few houses, pansyons and restaurants. The natural harbour at one end attracts yachts and gulets that call into the waterside lokantas. There are around eight of these village restaurants and four cafes line of the bay, life in the traditional village of Orhaniye continues pretty much as it has for ning the bay, with the two at the marina (about five minutes’ walk along the beach path from our featured property, the Dogan) serving a more varied menu than might be expected, given the simple setting.

Behind and above the occasional comings and goings of the bay, life in the traditional village of Orhaniye continues pretty much as it has for generations.

Turgotkoy

Aside from a few simple restaurants and a couple of cafes, most of the 550 people who live in Turgutkoy make their living from the land or the sea, with farming and bee-keeping being particularly prevalent. The best of the local produce – corn, wheat, barley, peanuts and all sorts of vegetables – are used in the kitchen of our featured hotel, the Mulberry Tree.
If you enjoy walking or exploration you will find much to occupy you here, as the walking is superb. Perhaps the best trail is to the ancient Greek site of Hydas (2000BC) at the top of Turgut Hill, with magnificent views over Selimye and Turgutkoy.
